Job Summary
The Shop Assistant Foreman supports the Shop Foreman in overseeing daily shop operations. This role assists with supervising personnel, coordinating workflow, maintaining safety standards, and ensuring fabrication projects are completed on schedule and to quality specifications. The Shop Assistant Foreman serves as a working leader, actively participating in fabrication while helping guide and support the team. The ideal candidate is a collaborative teammate who learns quickly, asks thoughtful questions, and thrives in a fast-paced, fully-custom, shop environment.
| Compensation: | Commensurate with experience. |
| Benefits: | Competitive Benefits. Available on the 1st of the month after a 30-day waiting period from the hire date. Phillips Tank pays approximately 60% and employees pay 40% of medical benefits premiums. Employees pay 100% for all other voluntary benefits. Paid Time Off. |

Responsibilities:
- Assist the Foreman in supervising welders, fitter and shop laborers.
- Help assign daily tasks and monitor production workflow
- Lead small teams when the Foreman is unavailable
- Support training and mentoring of new and existing employees
- Promote teamwork, accountability, and a positive shop culture
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work orders
- Ensure work meets required tolerances and company quality standards
- Perform in-process inspections and assist with final quality checks
- Identify and communicate production issues or delays
- Help maintain production schedules and deadlines
- Enforce shop safety procedures and proper PPE usage
- Participate in safety meetings and toolbox talks
- Maintain clean and organized work areas
- Report hazards, near-misses, and incidents promptly
- Ensure proper use of tools and fabrication equipment
- Assist with preventative maintenance and equipment checks
- Monitor material usage and report shortages
- Help coordinate inventory and material staging
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent (Technical/trade certification preferred)
- Experience: 5+ years of fabrication experience
- Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of welding processes, metal fabrication, and shop equipment
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
- Working knowledge of OSHA safety standards
- Teamwork & Collaboration:
- Proven team player with clear and respectful communication skills
- Curious and eager to learn new tools, processes and industry standards
- Problem Solving & Decision Making:
- Strong problem-solving mindset with the initiative to dig into issues and propose solutions
- Documentation & Organization:
- Capable of maintaining accurate project records, reports, and drawing packages
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple jobs at once
